Hey there, Insiders!
I’m pleased to report that I’m 35,000 words into the new Jake Fletcher book, and I’m not even halfway through the story yet. This thing is shaping up to be a real beast!
When I originally started the Spectral Detective series (back when it was called Ghosted, for those of you who can remember that far back), things were quite different. Short and pulpy, that was the Uncanny Kingdom motto back then. Write fast, write often. Keep ’em coming.
Since then, we’ve tried lots of different things—books set in the past, books starring anti-heroes, books told in the third person—but the one thing we haven’t done yet is write an epic. A real doorstop. Okay, maybe not War & Peace exactly, but something substantial. Something that weighs a little heavy on your bookshelf.
This is my long-winded way of saying sorry that the new Jake Fletcher book is taking so long, but letting you know that it’s delayed with good reason. I’ve really pulled out all the stops with this one: I’m talking an A-story, a B-story, even a sneaky little C-story. This is a whole new beginning for Jake. A brave new world for him to explore, and this time he won’t be working it alone…
But that’s all I’m going to say on that subject for now. Stay tuned for more Spectral Detective news next week. Until then, here’s our latest release…
