Hey there, Insiders!
David here with another Spectral Detective tease…
First of all, let’s cut right to the chase. I’ve already told you that the series has been rebranded Fletcher & Fletcher, Paranormal Investigators, but what I haven’t revealed yet is the name of the first book in the new series. So here goes…
The title is…
Necessary Evil
Oooh. But that’s not all I’m here to gab about. A couple of weeks back I told you I was going to talk about the process of designing a cover for the new book. I’m not ready to show you the finished article just yet, but I can show you some of the sketches I came up with on my way there.
Here’s the first one…

Not bad, but maybe a little bland. I don’t know, maybe I’ll come back to something like this in a future installment of the series, but this design didn’t quite have the oomph I was after.
So, moving on…

Yikes! Seems I leaned a bit too far into the book’s Noir stylings and accidentally turned Jake into a gun-toting serial killer.
Now let’s get out of here before someone gets themselves shot!

This one I’m quite fond of, particularly the arrangement of the title text. Maybe I’ll use something like it when I’m putting a series boxed set together, but not for a Book 1. For one thing, it doesn’t feature Jake’s new partner (nor do any of the previous samples, now I come to think of it), and that just won’t do.
So, sit back and relax, and in a few weeks, I’ll share the real Necessary Evil cover.
Exciting!
David
