Matt here, again.
Well, we’re not tooooooo far away from some new Uncanny Kingdom goodness to share with you! David is powering along with his new Jake Fletcher book, the first in a sort of relaunch for the character. If you opened his last email you’ll already know that this time around, it won’t be branded Spectral Detective, but Fletcher & Fletcher, Paranormal Investigators.
Why? Good question.
It’s kind of a boring answer, but it comes down to marketing. Something that looks like a fresh, new book, and reads like it, too—with no need to have followed the previous Jake Fletcher titles—is just going to have a better chance of appealing to more people than book four in an ongoing series. Even though it is. And also isn’t.
Clear? Uh… hm…
He’s not the only one working on new UK stuff, though, as I mentioned in my last email. I’m developing my new series, which I’m very excited about. My book will take a bit of a different path to David, in that it will also feature previous characters, and kinda work as a sequel in some ways, but is much more boldly a NEW thing. Even to the extent that it’s not really set in the United Kingdom. Well, it is. But it isn’t.
Clear? Uh… hm… (Okay, stop doing that, Matt)
It means a bit more world-building than we’ve done in previous books, as this one’s set in a place that’s walled itself off from the UK. A place that has locked the doors to the outside world, and is populated by Uncanny folk who’ve been in hiding for hundreds of years. But why? What could possibly make all of these powerful people willingly step inside a prison of their making and throw away the key?
I guess you’re just gonna have to wait a little while longer to find out for yourself! But believe me, if you’ve read any of our other series (*cough* – London Coven – *sniffle* – Hexed Detective – *splutter* – Uncanny Ink) you’ve already picked up some tasty breadcrumbs. And if you haven’t read them? It doesn’t matter! You can step into this and enjoy it fully for what it is, a new, bold, spooky fantasy!
