It’s almost Halloween! Now, the spookiest time of year isn’t as big a hoo-ha over here in the UK as it is in the States, but it still gives us Brits an excuse to indulge the macabre.
I’m not sure where my love of scary stories comes from, though the fact that my older sisters would let me stay up late as long as I watched a movie with them, and that movie was very likely to feature Freddy Krueger, might have something to do with it…
This week I thought it would be fun for us all to share some spooky stories with each other. Here’s some from me, then you let me know yours!
A Head Full of Ghosts
Paul Tremblay is one of my fave current spooky writers. He writes stories with that deep-down scary stitched right to its bones, and there are few writers who I look forward to a new story from more. Try this one first, then fly through the rest. They’re sure to get your heart beating faster.
My Best Friend’s Exorcism
I mean, just check out that cover and tell me you don’t want to give this one a look! This one said it read like The Exorcist as written by Tina Fey, and that’s not too far off the mark. It’s a fun, 80s-tastic story about female friendship, bad parents, and the demonic.
Yes, I am going to push one of our books on you, what of it?! We’ve had a lot of readers tell us that this one pushes their scary buttons more than they expected from Urban Fantasy, and that pleases me no end. It wasn’t my aim exactly, but then that naughty pair, Mr. Cotton & Mr. Spike, turned up and there’s no controlling them. Click the pic and grab yours!
Do you enjoy a spooky read? Then reply and tell me a book that freaked you out. Happy Halloween!
