In case you’re wondering about the status of the Spectral Detective second edition I keep banging on about, let me tell you.
A couple of weeks back I handed my first draft to Matt. My sage co-writer quite rightly (if annoyingly) pointed out that it needed work. Quite a bit of work, it turns out. Like, whole new chapters of work.
So that’s what I’ve been busy with: filling out the story, tightening the plot, and plugging a plot hole or two. In fact, I’m still busy with it, largely due to the fact that my toddler’s nursery was unexpectedly shut down (a kid managed to escape and go on a ramble. Yes, really), so I’ve had to pick up a bunch of extra childcare.
Oh, and I decided to get rid of the extra lockdown weight I’ve put on, which has amounted to daily runs that also cut into the time I spend hunched over a desk. Great for the body, bad for my word count.
The good news? The extra work I’m putting in will make for a longer and richer read, even if it takes a little longer to come together. So be patient, Insiders, I beg of you. Soon (I promise) the wait will be over.
